ADOPT-A-FAMILY

Every holiday Lunch Break turns into a Santa’s Little Workshop by undertaking a huge operation to provide gifts for hundreds of the areas neediest children. Through our “Adopt a Family” program we provide new and age appropriate gifts to local, underprivileged children from newborn to 17 years of age. This year we have gift requests for over 650 children. In order for this program to be a success we depend on the support and generosity of many kind individuals and organizations.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS?

  • Come into Lunch Break and select who you would like to adopt.
  • Request that we select the family for you based on a specific number of children and ages. You then purchase the gifts based on the information provided.
  • Donate random gifts not attached to any one specific family and Lunch Break will use the gifts to fill the bags to those who will not get adopted or for those who need more gifts to fill the bags.  Gift Suggestions include dolls (Barbie), tea sets, board games, books, gift cards (Target, Walmart, Movies etc.).

We ask for all “unwrapped” gifts to be returned to Lunch Break by Wednesday, December 9, 2009 or upon pre arranged date. All gifts will be distributed by Lunch Break to the parents on Saturday, December 19 along with groceries and a frozen turkey.

For additional information on this program, please contact Lunch Break by calling 732-747-8577 and asking for Christine or by sending an e-mail to glove@lunchbreak.org. Thank you for your consideration.

COOKING CLASSES   ”Kids Who Care Cook for Those in Need”

Jo Anne Larzik, Lunch Break volunteer and owner of the children’s cooking school Now We’re Cookin! Kids, approached Lunch Break with the idea of running a program for children between the ages of 5 and 12 to teach them how to cook more healthful meals and at the same time help people in their community.   The program consists of five sessions and students learn how to cook healthy nutritious meals which are served the next day at Lunch Break.  The program will be funded by grants, and the only cost to the children is the requirement that they bring in one item on the list of ingredients for the next session’s meal.   For information about upcoming sessions contact Lunch Break at 732-747-8577.

GUEST CHEF PROGRAM

Lunch Break began a new program in 2009 for local chefs interested in volunteering at Lunch Break.  Our first guest chef was Rosanne Monroe, a graduate of the Brookdale Culinary Arts Program.  Jo Anne Larzik will also be a member of our “Guest Chef” team and will commence her official activity on the first Wednesday in December.  Please contact Lunch Break at 732-747-8577 if you are interested in joining our Guest Chef team.
