Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions
- Must I sign up in advance to volunteer?
We welcome your help but you are required to register in advance.
- When can I volunteer?
We are open:
Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
You may also volunteer for special programs, such as Children’s Cooking Classes, Boys and Girls Club Dinners, Hispanic Dinners (see calendar)
- What will my volunteer job be once I arrive?
We ask that you come prepared to serve in whatever capacity is needed for the day. Because we are a donation based organization your services will depend on the donations that are received at the back door. You may be asked to prepare or serve food, wash dishes, clean tables and floors, shelve food in the pantry, organize clothing, answer incoming phone calls, and even work outside. Only trained personnel are allowed to cook in our kitchen.
- What should I wear to volunteer?
Please wear long pants and sneakers. No open-toed shoes are allowed. Dress modestly, no short shorts or skirts, please. Wear a minimum amount of jewelry. Leave pocketbooks and other valuables locked in your car. We provide a locker for coats. We also provide aprons and hairnets if you are asked to serve food.
- As a student, can I earn community service hours at Lunch Break?
We welcome students to volunteer with us on Saturdays, during the Summer, and for special programs. You can also earn community service hours by running a food drive. During the Summer our volunteer schedule fills up quickly so please call in late Spring to register.
If you have any questions, or want to sign up to help, please call the Volunteer Coordinator, Peg Rizzo, 732-747-8577ext 3108 or email email@example.com.
